Idoni was a word Cavafy frequently used in establishing his personal landscape and is usually translated as "sensual pleasure".

Idoni

From all I did and all I said
let no one try to find out
    who I was.
An obstacle was there
    that changed the pattern
of my actions
and the manner of my life.
An obstacle was often there
to stop me
    when I'd begin to speak.
From my most unnoticed actions,
my most veiled writing -
from these alone
    will I be understood.
But maybe it isn't worth
    so much concern,
so much effort to discover
    who I really am.
Later, in a more perfect society,
someone else
    made just like me
is certain to appear and act freely.

C. P. Cavafy (1863-1933) lived in relative obscurity in Alexandria and a collection of his poems was not published until after his death.

His importance went relatively unrecognized before his death for exactly those reasons that have now established him as perhaps the most original and influential Greek poet of this century .

His almost prosaic frugality in the use of figures and metaphors; his constant evocation of spoken rhythms and colloquialisms; his often esoteric but brilliantly alive sense of history; his aesthetic perfectionism; and his frank, avant-garde treatment of homosexual themes. While Cavafy's more well-known works such as The City, Ithacka, The Satrapy are undeniably poignant and brillant; it is his homoerotic poetry that are perhaps his most heartfelt.
